If you've lived in Toronto for a while you already know Hakka. If you haven't tried it yet, you're in for a treat — and Mother India Roti serves a full lineup.

Where Hakka comes from

Hakka Indo-Chinese is the delicious result of Chinese cooks in India adapting their food to local tastes: wok-fired, garlicky, gingery and unapologetically spicy — Chinese technique meets Indian heat.

What to order

Start with chilli chicken or Veg Manchurian (crispy vegetable balls in a tangy, spicy sauce). Cauliflower lovers have chilli and schezwan gobi; there's honey-garlic and Chicken 65 too. For a main, go for Hakka noodles or Indo-Chinese fried rice — veg, egg, chicken or shrimp.

How spicy is it?

Hakka runs hotter than most of our curries, but it's balanced with sweet and savoury notes. Ask the kitchen if you'd like it milder — everything is cooked to order.
